We recently had the opportunity to interview SpaceAntiques.com, an innovative penny auction website headquartered in Montreal, Quebec.

What is SpaceAntiques?
We are an innovative auction site committed to new technology.
Who is SpaceAntiques?
Actually we, as a group, came together at different moments during the last 2 years. First, Robert, a young immigrant from Poland in 2008, introduced the penny auction concept to his friends Marek and Dariusz who were working in the dry cleaning business at the time. They all fell in love with the idea and in early 2009 began to develop the site part time. During the development phase they met Andy, a jobless young professional that was looking to pursue his entrepreneurial spirit. Together they formed E-nnovation Entertainment Inc and SpaceAntiques was finally born.
Explain your slogan “Alien Junk, Human Joy” to us.
When we created our brand name “SpaceAntiques” we needed a slogan to portray that the aliens have landed to offer their unwanted junk to earthlings. What we discovered is that the old technology of aliens is cutting edge to us! We came up with “Alien Junk, Human Joy.”
As you know, new penny auctions are starting each day. Why should bidders give SpaceAntiques a try?
We are aware that the penny auction industry is saturated, but unlike most of our competitors, we created our site from scratch. We developed a cutting edge technology that, we believe, is one of the most advanced auction systems in the world. Our innovative bidding assistant tool named the “SpaceBidder” dramatically increases the entertainment and strategies on our site. We can compare our “SpaceBidder” only to that of Bidrodeo’s “Bidbuddy”. We are the only 2 that use such a system. We are also creating different auction types that do not exist in the industry. An example would be our new “bids-back” auction type where 2nd place gets 50% bids back and 3rd place gets 100% back.
We are seriously committed to maintaining fair play and transparency which is revealed by the fact that all bidding history is displayed in our ended auctions. Finally, we believe that our customer service is top tier and can compete with the best sites out there… AND we have NO SHIPPING costs!
How much do bids cost at SpaceAntiques? Are you currently offering any promotions?
Our bid prices range from $1.00 to $0.65. We are currently giving all new users 5 free bids upon registration.
How many auctions do you run each day? Do you have different auction formats?
We presently offer 6 auctions per day – 2 in the daytime and 4 in the evening. This can change as we adjust to the demand. Our auction types are all identified with different icons. We currently have standard penny auctions, newbie auctions, manual auctions and the previously mentioned “bids-back” auction types listed on our site.
What tips would you give to bidders trying SpaceAntiques for the first time?
We would highly suggest, upon registration, that new bidders monitor at least one day of auction activity to get familiar with the play. Also it would be wise to begin with our newbie auctions that are specifically designed for new users who have won less than 3 times. The newbie auction is key to developing confidence and mastering functionality before participating in the main auctions.
You recently opened SpaceAntiques to US and Canadian bidders. Will you be expanding to additional countries in the future?
No, our plan is to excel within the North American market only.
