this site is a great site and when i called CS the service was great .

i would like to see the shipping charges posted so that you know how much they will be since they can greatly influence your bidding strategy .

also i thik they might want to consider raising their winlimit a bit 5 per month is quite low .

i definitly recommend this site and i hope it will be here for a long time to come

They use shill bids… I’d stay away. I’ve done nothing but lose money on this site, and when I contacted the company about it, they did not respond. Also, see below review:

After being introduced to Skoreit about 6 weeks ago, I wanted to share my excitement of such a great site. I have won a couple of really great things. I find it to be a challenge but that is what keeps it so exciting. Thank you Skoreit for such an amazing web site!

  7. Kate May 10, 2010 at 10:59 am #

I love SkoreIt! By far my favorite PA site. Bid pack prices are reasonable and it’s not impossible to win. Customer service always emails me back quickly. I have had really good luck on the site and it offers features alot of other sites don’t. There aren’t an overwhelming amount of users, so that is another plus. I feel this site is an undiscovered gem in the PA world.

  9. Hawk August 6, 2010 at 9:40 am #

For those of you who won a bid (item), how much money did you actually spend “trying” to win it? 200 bids is $75.

If an item being auctioned off is going at a rate of 1 cent per bid, 100 bids would only increase the price of the item by $1. If a dozen people are biding against each other, you could burn through 100-200 bids easily and NOT even win the bid.

You could spend $75 on something that you won’t even win. How does this make any sense what so ever people? If you do by chance win, the item price will be discounted BIG time, but when you factor in how much you spent on bidding, I’m not sure you’re getting such a good deal.

  10. Hawk August 6, 2010 at 9:47 am #

Rick…’givemeachance’…I think you’re a perfect example of my previous post. I see your name popping up ALL over the place bidding on tons of items. Seriously dude…how much have you spent just on bid alone? Are you really getting a good deal? $100 speakers and you probably only paid $4 for them but you probably spent $100 on 200+ bids.

This website is a scam. They are making money hand over fist just from people who keep buying new bids. Now they’re advertising on the radio in the Dallas area. Hundreds, if not thousands of more people will start signing up. Go to amazon.com people…

  11. penny-auction-expert August 6, 2010 at 10:32 am #

    Hey Hawk,

Thanks for your comments. Though your logic about bid costs is correct – a $1.00 item means that 100 bids were placed, I think you missed the prime element of Rick’s post.

He said that he bought 200 bids ($75) and reached his win limit with 1 bid leftover. That means he won 5 items, not just a set of speakers, for $75. SkoreIt limits users to winning 5 auctions every 28 days.

I understand why many people are skeptical about penny auctions because I was skeptical myself when I first discovered them in 2009. I always encourage people who are skeptical to use a site that offers bid to buy (so you don’t waste your money) or avoid penny auctions altogether.

Thanks for your comments. Feel free to contribute anytime.

  13. KW August 24, 2010 at 7:03 pm #

MUST Change winning limit back down to 5 in 28 days. This is rediculous. There are hardly any Auctions with the buy it later feature. Very disappointed in the change.

  14. SkoreIt! August 25, 2010 at 11:24 am #

    KW,

Please keep in mind that when we had a win limit of 5 per 28 days we were running 20-25 auctions per day.

Currently we are running 55 auctions a day. The increment from ~23 -> 55 auctions per day represents a 140% increase. Likewise, the increment from 5 -> 12 wins per month represents the same 140% increase.

In effect, no one bidder is able to dominate any more than they were able to in the past.

Also, please note that our previous win limit of 5 per 28 days was one of the lowest in the industry. Our new win limit is also low by traditional standards.

  15. If It Walks Like A Duck August 27, 2010 at 7:08 am #

Skoreit seems like a scam and fraud to me. PAL saying it has been approved because PAL won and got their item is the ultimate false sense of security. Winning and receiving an item doesn’t mean that the site isn’t shill bidding. All the signs of a fraud are there = Skoreit has much less traffic than RockyBid and has twice as many auctions as RockyBid, yet auctions on SkoreIt go much higher than those on rockybid. SkoreIt gets these endless waves of new bidders everyday, supposedly from advertising on ESPN radio. I listened for 3 hours and didn’t hear an ad from them. Last night auctions kept ending in pairs at the exact same time. Most tellingly though is this – when the site first launched most of the wins of high value items were gotten by a few users. As the site got more actual users those bidders kept bidding prices higher and higher but never winning. Recently there was a period where those bidders who looked like shills stopped bidding, and things were going cheaply. So all of sudden those bidders who looked like shills reappeared, and they again drove prices insanely high without winning. And they did it again. Would a regular bidder keep bidding over and over against the same powerbidders without ever winning, to the tune of thousands of dollars by now? If those people aren’t shills then they are brain-damaged and SkoreIt should be ashamed of themselves for taking advantage of them. SkoreIt has also eliminated the Buy It Now option, yet it still says here and on their site that they have it. The Buy It Now Option is crucial to limiting how much a real user can be screwed over by a shill-bidding site. Just because SkoreIt seems soooo sincere in saying they don’t shill bid doesn’t mean they are telling the truth. I bet Bernie Madoff seemed quite sincere to the people he screwed, too.

@If It Walks Like a Duck,

First, I’m hoping you’ll return to read this response. The email you used to post your comment doesn’t seem to be valid, which makes it impossible for us to contact you to discuss some of your concerns.

I want to be sure that you understand our auction approval process. All auctions we include on our website are carefully screened first. We’ve received items from sites that we have been unwilling to verify, so winning and receiving items is not the criteria. We’ve also dealt with angry auction owners who can’t understand why we won’t add them to the directory. Please check out our directory standards here to understand the auction approval process: http://pennyauctionlist.com/the-penny-auction-directory/auction-directory-standards/

SkoreIt offers phone support, email support, and an address where they can be reached. Additionally, they have received positive feedback from many of the bidders we trust to help us identify suspicious activity.

Your comparison of SkoreIt to RockyBid is a bit misleading. Bids on SkoreIt cost 1/2 as much as bids on RockyBid, so simple logic seems to explain why items on SkoreIt have higher ending prices. Additionally, many of SkoreIt’s auctions are 2 or 4 cent auctions, as opposed to RockyBid’s standard penny auctions.

As to SkoreIt’s recent adjustments to Buy it Now, I do understand why Buy it Now is important you. They will have to address your concerns individually as we are not privy to those discussions.

    Sincerely,
    The Penny Auction List

  17. If It Walks Like a Duck August 28, 2010 at 9:58 am #

I don’t know why you are saying my email doesn’t seem to be valid. It is. I just emailed myself to confirm it. As for your approval process, neither I or any other reader even has any information on which to conclude you are above board, much less the “bidders you trust”. Yes, bids are approx. 60% more expensive on RockyBid. That would mean that all other things being equal things should sell on skoreit for maybe 50% more than they sell on rockyBid. But SkoreIt has far more auctions and far less traffic according to Alexa. Those things mean that skoreit auctions should end for less. Instead they end for much more. And the only auctions that are 2 or 4 cent auctions are cheap little things whose results I’m not even talking about. Who attaches relevance to someone answering the phone and emails? As if every other scam in the world was done without a phone or email? Or physical address? Please. Nothing you say stands up to scrutiny. Bernie Madoff had the most prestigious physical address in the world. There are 86,400 seconds in a day. SkoreIt has 55 auctions in a day. What are the odds that 2 auctions would end at the exact same second? What are the odds that that would happen 4 times in one night? And NO, it wasn’t a network problem, as some of those endings ended with BidAgents battling, and BidAgents would not be subject to a network glitch. And at least one of the “winners” was also one of the bidders who bids like a shill or a brain-damaged person. Just as I don’t know if this site is legit or not, I don’t know if skoreit is legit or not. I’m expressing my doubts about the thing waddling and quacking and saying it is a horse.

  18. penny-auction-expert August 28, 2010 at 12:12 pm #

Have you emailed SkoreIt with any of your concerns? Have they replied? Those would be the first steps to take. Comments that are speculative in nature (“SkoreIt seems like a scam and fraud”) do not help bidders determine which sites can be trusted.

As far as the integrity of this site is concerned -

    1. On an average day, we receive several emails from new auctions that want to be included in our penny auction directory. We’ve been around since February 2010. Take a look at how many auctions are currently in our directory. We do all that we can to only include sites that have all their ducks in a row. No pun intended.

    2. If we had ulterior motives, your comment would have never been posted in the first place. We welcome questions/concerns, as this is a community designed to help bidders. It’s run by bidders as well.

    3. The feedback we use to make our determinations comes from sources that we believe are reliable in the penny auction community. Their real names, email addresses, and bidding names will not be revealed as this could have repercussions for them on various sites.

We hope that you will visit often and post any updates you have related to your concerns with SkoreIt.

We will also forward them your concerns and wait for a response.

  19. If It Walks Like A Duck August 29, 2010 at 11:16 am #

My comment wasn’t simply speculative in nature. I explained in detail why it seems like a fraud and a scam. Why would my comment be any less helpful than JW, fh, and monikab claiming to have had a good experience? No one knows who they are or if they are telling the truth. No one knows if they aren’t all the same person. No one knows if they aren’t all you.

  20. Misleading Ads August 31, 2010 at 5:40 am #

I just think the ads for these types of sites are misleading. When they say you “won and auction” for $3…they dont tell you the bidding costs…and the costs associated with not winning.

How many people have spent hundreds of dollars to bid without anything to show for it?

If It Walks Like A Duck,

We have been conducting a high profile advertising campaign on ESPN Radio’s Mike&Mike and Scott Van Pelt shows. We are happy to report that the campaign has been successful, resulting in many of the new users you might have seen on SkoreIt.com.

This morning “skoreit” was even the 8th highest ranked search term in the entire United States on Google!

We are waiting on a video of our primary ESPN2 Mike&Mike advertisement — once it is available we will post it on YouTube!

    Misleading Ads,

Are you referring to the examples of auctions that Mike Golec talked about during our advertisements? If so, the two auctions he referred to are real auctions that you can find in our closed auctions section.

As far as total “savings” go; in our advertisements and our help page we use the latest, actual average savings that winning bidders on SkoreIt! achieve — including the cost of their bids. As of today it has been 70% across the board for the last 30 days. In some instances we also say “save UP TO 99%”.. which is accurate.

  23. Tommy September 7, 2010 at 3:59 am #

Having read these comments, I am getting concerned about these sites being frauds. I want to believe that this site and skoreit.com are both legit sites. My friend is signing up for an account, so I don’t want him getting ripped off. But there are some good points made here about the negatives of skoreit.com.
How much does the site profit for each item sold? If they are making more than the profits retail value, then it CAN’T work out well for consumers.

  24. penny-auction-expert September 7, 2010 at 6:35 am #

    Hey Tommy,

Penny auctions are confusing for those who are signing up for the first time. You can lose money if you don’t plan wisely. We encourage users to monitor a site for several days before bidding. Figure out which items go for less, and what times of day have the least amount of competition. The following links may be helpful for your friend…

    We hope that helps.

  25. FogEOne September 13, 2010 at 11:28 am #

I can’t respond to the legitimacy of penny auction sites. Most seem on the up and up, but skoreit must have the highest profit margins ever! Take a $100.00 gift card for example. At an average bid price of .63 cents/ 1 cent bid, if the gift card goes for anything more than $1.60, they’re in the black! If an Ipad goes for $15.00 at auction, you’re looking at almost 100% profit! Heck, even if the Ipad goes for $3.14 they break even. I’m not saying it’s good or bad, and the real savings on these items IF you win is pretty good. The problem is you could spend a lot of money in bids just to “hope” to get a deal on something. It’s the price of the product that drives the bidding which completely overshadows the costs associated with the bidding itself. It’s not a scam, just a brilliant way to distract the consumer from the real overall costs AND keep ‘em coming back for more. I’m just jealous that I didn’t come up with this idea first!

  26. Randy September 14, 2010 at 7:01 pm #

    Hey,

Well, I have been just watching skoreit for about a month or so before I would sign up. I am very concerned in shill bidders. It is incredible how many newbies there are each and every day. These newbies rarely win and throw out single bids on multiple auctions at one time. I understand some people dont really understand how to play, but seems really odd that there are so many new people each day. Some of these products have massive amounts of bids on them. Seems like a really nice site, just concerned about the shill bidding. How do we all know they are not driving up the auctions with shills???

  27. Chris September 15, 2010 at 7:19 am #

There is a current auction for an ipad at around $120 right now. It has penny increments and has had over 122,000 bids. If my math is correct, at 60 cents per bid they have already collected $73,000 dollars on a $500 ipad. Sounds like a scam to me.

  28. Mike September 15, 2010 at 2:01 pm #

My problem with Skoreit is there is no limit as to how many Bid Packs a person can win. Today I saw a person that had won 3 (250 bid) Bid packs Plus a (120 bid), plus a (60 bid) Bid Pack. So let see, that equals 930 Bids. So here I am with my lousy 30 bids that I paid $.60 each for, competing with a person that has 930 bids. Well guess what, That person is winning everything under the sun because he can S##T bids. If they really wanted to be fair, they should Limit the number of bid packages a person can win in a 28 day period. This would help level the playing field a bit.
    Mike

  29. penny-auction-expert September 15, 2010 at 4:19 pm #

    @Randy,
Kudos to you for watching a site an entire month BEFORE bidding. In the last 2 weeks, SkoreIt has been featured on ESPN (Mike and Mike show, etc). They are literally receiving 1000s of new sign ups each day. This would explain your concerns.

    @Chris,
Thanks for your thoughts. Normally, an auction going that high would put up HUGE red flags for us here at PAL. However, SkoreIt’s marketing campaign means that 1000s of new users are signing up each day…and we’re assuming that many of those new users are playing with free bids they get for registering. I’m sure SkoreIt made a good profit on that auction, but not $73,000.

    @Mike,
As far as I know, bid packs count as part of your 28 day win limits. You’d have to check with their Customer Support team to be sure.

  30. mikefromtheboat September 16, 2010 at 1:06 pm #

I just signed up with espn’s code (new user) and used my bids probably in a dumb way, so I can see why things are hard to win right now.

Chris: your math is off: $120 item x 100 bids per $1.00 = 12,000 bids, not 120,000. Still a nice profit though. I am guessing advertising on ESPN is not cheap. They need to put up a lot more auctions with this kind of momentum for people to stay happy and interested in buying bids. I am not going to buy bids knowing I am competing with 50,000 new users with free bids and only 50 items to bid on a day. NO THANKS!!!

  31. Pennybidforeclosure September 17, 2010 at 1:29 pm #

I have watched skoreit since hearing about it on mike and mike. At first I thought it looked like a scam and shrill bidding, but the more I watch the less I think this is the case. The problem is when people join that don’t know what they are doing they are wasting the people that actually have bought bids money.

If you have one person that bought 30 bids bidding against 8 people that used a promo code chances are the person with 30 bids isn’t going to win.

It isn’t hard to find out who is a n00b and who actually knows what they are doing. Watch the people that just bid randomly and the ones that use a bid agent at the last 5 seconds.

Winning bids are usually just someone bidding crazy amounts and using their muscle to push bidders with less bids around. Or it is just luck and timing when the next “bid agent” is going to run out while no one single bids you out of your bids.

Take it from someone that has spent $0.00 on the website, but spent several hours deciding if it is a crapshoot, or real skill involved.

I heir on the luck side.

  32. TheGuy September 20, 2010 at 5:38 pm #

Ok I heard about Skoreit.com from Mike & Mike and I’m trying to determine if this is shady or not.

When you place a bid, like I’m thinking of signing up under the promo code and doing, you lose that bid forever, correct? And can you use a promo bid on something that is up at (for example) $8.32?

I’ve got my eye on something but I don’t understand the whole bids/bidding process yet.

  33. penny-auction-expert September 21, 2010 at 6:26 am #

    @TheGuy

Thanks for your questions about SkoreIt, and welcome to the world of penny auctions.

You can use promo bids to bid on whatever you want. The catch is that each time you bid, time gets added to the clock. If you are the last person to bid and time runs out completely, you win the item at it’s final price plus the shipping costs. Winning auctions usually takes a significant amount of bids, so keep that in mind that you might burn up your promo bids and walk away with nothing.

The trick is to bid on the right auctions (ones that often end for cheap), at the right time of day (when the site isn’t very busy), against the right people (there are some individuals who bid ruthlessly, which scares other bidders and allows them to win items for cheap. You want to avoid those people).

You can also use the promo code PAL for 5 bids in addition to the ESPN code.

Here are some other resources to check out before you start bidding:

    http://pennyauctionlist.com/bidder-resources/auction-faqs/

    http://pennyauctionlist.com/category/bidder-interviews/

    Best of luck to you.

  34. semi-new skoreit user September 24, 2010 at 9:58 am #

I have lately seen alot of auctions go for much more than the retail price..case in point Auction #7486, $50 Home Depot Gift Card. Total cost to bidder was $103.27…for a $50 gift card?!?!!? This happens several times per day, and the people making this kind of purchase are normally newer to the site. Can’t help but think these are shills sent in to drive up the price and raise the number of bids from everyone else..who in their right minds are “paying” double for a product, when they can go down to the local Home Depot, or Grocery store, and purchase the card themselves for about $55 including what ever fees and taxes are charged. This particular auction had 646 bids…at an average price of .60 per bid, that is a total of $387.60, less the winner’s (shill’s) bidding leaves almost $300.00 in profit (because they won’t need to purchase or send out the card).
Looks like Skoreit is now becoming an expensive site for someone to frequent.

  35. Patrick September 29, 2010 at 7:09 am #

Don’t be fooled, this site is a complete scam! They lure people in with the promise of very cheap winning prices, but if you do the math these items are ridiculously expensive (usually more than 10X what they’re worth) The numbers are inflated a bit due to the free promotional bid packs they’re giving away, but if you’re buying bid packages you’re still up against all the free ones out there. The numbers are stacked incredibly against you. A lottery ticket would be a better investment!!!!!

  36. Curious October 5, 2010 at 9:10 am #

I’m curious about the source of these products. EBAY makes enough sense – people wanting to unload their stuff and will pull it back if acceptable money isn’t made. So, the question is, who in their right mind why in the world would someone put up gift cards that are basically the same as money. The only logical seller would be Skoreit themselves in the hope that they earn more in bids than the cost of the gift card.

  37. penny-auction-expert October 5, 2010 at 2:58 pm #

    Curious,

If you’re new to the concept of penny auctions, you need to understand that 1 person gets a “deal” on the giftcard (usually by paying less than retail), while the goal of each penny auction site is to pull in a significant profit (otherwise they’re working with a flawed business model).

Most penny auction sites like SkoreIt use outside vendors (like Gift Card Mall) to fulfill these orders.

    CONGRATS!

  40. Concerned October 8, 2010 at 2:30 pm #

I have been on this site off and on all day and have learned that this is quite a scam. If an item sells for $50 that means there were 5000 bids at $.60 a bid for a total $3000. I wish I could have invented something that would return me $3000 for an item that retails for $400. Good for the site but bad for consumers.

    @Concerned,

This is how the penny auction model works. One bidder walks away with the deal, but the other bidder lose out unless the site offers a “Bid to Buy” option (which SkoreIt does on occasion).

Though your math is correct, it fails to account for people using free bids or voucher bids that may lessen the amount of money the site actually makes.

If you have other questions about penny auctions, we hope you’ll stop by often and learn the ropes.

So, we shouldn’t be skeptical about this user below? Just in the past 28 days, they have 6,205 bids on the items they won. Almost $800 in bids for an ipad? Not buying It.

    @NotBuyingIt

This argument/concern has been adequately addressed over @ PennyBurners. See this thread – http://pennyburners.com/community/showthread.php?t=857

Again, this user overpays on occasion, but the bidding reputation they gain helps them win most items for less than retail. This is called powerbidding, and it’s a proven strategy.

Let me tell you what I think. I think it absolutely is a scam. I have been watching some bidding on this site and I am pretty sure here is what is happening. They have accounts that are bidding against real users. Almost all “winning” bids are done by their so called “bidding agent” system. I have found it is the same people winning the same products over and over. Tonight a bidder called “sorryiamnotstopping” was using a bidding agent and was bidding on every product that was close to closing. I looked at the account and this bidder had won 7 Ipads just recently. SEVEN!!! There is no way within their site to verify these are real people (no forum or personal info supplied like on Ebay). So very easily there could be one single Ipad which this shill bids on over and over and will win at all cost. On some of the ones he won he paid near retail. On the 14th he was the winning bidder and with the cost of the bids it took to win plus the amount needed to be paid upon winning he paid $489.27 for a product that retails for $499.99. However there were a total of 4565 bids places. Even at the lowest cost per bid they offer (960 bids for $576) the cost is $.60 per bid. So that is 4565 x .60 = $2,739 – $489.27 (supposed winning bid cost) means they took in $2,249.73 in real money. So let me ask you this… if this was a real person then why would they pay near retail cost for something you already won 7 of the week or two before? And if you are a dealer then that certainly wouldn’t leave a lot to profit from would it? Less than $10 to be exact. This is 100% a sham.

    @jeff fournier,

Thanks for sharing your opinions here at the Penny Auction List. SkoreIt has a clear fair bidding policy located here: https://www.skoreit.com/Help/FairBiddingPolicy

If they were going to use fradulent practices or fake bidders, I doubt they would make themselves legally vulnerable with a policy like that. I also think if they wanted to fabricate or make use of fake bidders, they would be more subtle about it.

The user SorryIamnotStopping wins lots of high ticket auctions at SkoreIt, but you should keep in mind that he or she has been a member for a long time (profile says Feb. 2010), so they know what they’re doing. You can see from their profile that they also win bidpacks, which means they haven’t paid full price for many of the bids they’re using. Their bidding strategy is called powerbidding, and I’ve referenced a thread about that particular user in the comments above.

Welcome to the frustrating (and sometimes fun) world of penny auctions!

Skoreit is a great site. Understand it is a GAME. If you enjoy and understand the game you will have a great time. If you don’t you will complain about it. I have had questions and asked them of Skoreit’s customer service and have receive a response if within a 24 hr period if not sooner and have had ALL my questions answered or issues resolved. Great customer service.

The site is a scam I’ve seen people bid thousands of times on an iPad which is stupid because they send more on bids than the product. If you have any other reason for this than a scam then you are an idiot

i watched someone bid over 200 times on skoreit.com for a bid package worth 120 bids now how does this make any sense at all. The only way it does is if they were shill biding.

i am CONVINCED skoreit uses shill bidding:

    explain:

user imbuyingthis used 126 bids and won a 120 bidpak…

i was watching this particular auction live: user kmah has used 137 bids in an attempt to win a 120 bidpak and lost!?!?!

worst of all: user ferrisb285 used 495 bids to win a 120 bidpack!!!! you read that right 495 bids to win 120!!!!! how in the world can this be explained???

i got hooked by the espn promos and even bought a bidpak…never again!!!!
